Discussion: How did this format impact how you processed the information?
Individually, examine your 15 objectives list. Ask yourself:
Which objectives will still be important to know in 5 years?
Do the objectives need to be reworded so that they are in SVO format?
How strong and specific are the Verbs? "Know" and "learn" are not on the list.
Refer to the Prioritizing Curriculum graphic. Do all objectives on your list fall in the "Essential" or "Important" categories?
In your groups, discuss and identify the objectives that will be included as you begin the curriculum mapping process. In your discussion include
do all objectives fall in the "essential" or "important" categories?
do all objectives start with "The Learner Will (TLW)"? If implied, start your Objective with the verb.
do all objectives include a strong verb that correlates with a specific skill or knowledge that the student is to demonstrate?
do all objectives include an object (concept) that is appropriate and attainable for the students in this class/course?
Note: objectives that fall into the "nice to know" category should only be included in the following mapping process, provided:
all of the "essential" and "important" objectives have been adequately covered
any "new" objectives have been added to ensure math standards coverage
